First Storm of the Season

It began with a lovely little snow sprinkle, just enough to wet the roads and make the grass look like flour had been spilled on it.

Then it began to sleet, then rain. It was raw and cold, just nasty.

But in the morning, the rain had frozen into a lovely coating of ice, and if there had been any sunshine, it would have been a wonderland.

This is from a friend's house, with a tiny breakthrough of Sol.

I have a feeling this year could be cold and nasty. I hope not.

New projects

They are mounting up! Sewing for Christmas, Twelfth Night, work both places, it is fun, but time consuming. I have a couple of faux fur projects going, one of which I will show after it is done.... Looks like nothin' now. The other is this one, a fur lined hood for both SCA and mundane use. If this winter is as bad as they are saying, I will need it.

Never Forget

We tend to concentrate on New York when we remember 9/11, but there were 184 souls lost at the Pentagon as well, and the 40 heroes of Shanksville.

New quilt

This is the new Moda Morris Modernized Charm Pack set into the Moda P B and J Celtic key blender. I love it. I think I will use an older Morris print to back and bind, and maybe a border, too.

Kittens and Sharks

Rufio and Xena... Twin terrors! But they are awfully cute ones!

And I am learning to do the One Block Wonder quilt... Now, why was it that I chose the octagon, again?

A Little Ceremony

Sir Gui took two new men at arms tester day, for a year and a day, nice ceremony, they pledged to obey him, he pledged to protect them and theirs. Then the Barony had Fry Night, and I was off to bardic at Bards Haven.

This morning, the sun rose. Imagine that!

A Dog and a Pig?

So, yesterday, about 0900ish, the watch cart calls in to base, and tells them there is a pig cavorting with a dog. Watch Commander Ronan asked somewhat tenuously, real animals? Well, yes, 'fraid so. It took over an hour to round them up,and load them into a cart for transportation... I don't know if the owners were ever found! Ah, Pennsic, it is unique!

Chemistry Stinks!

Beginning to boil the milk to make a period non stick coating on my pot. I mean, what does boiled milk make? Casein, right? Non-petroleum based plastic. Should work, right?

Almost there. Smelly. But effective, I hope. Now I just let it cool, and.... What? Rinse? Surely not wash. Yeah, rinse. I'll let y'all know how it turns out!

Yum

Barley, chicken, onions, garlic, herbs, and good friends. Well, not in the pot. And they brought pomegranate wine!

This was the night before...bacon wrapped chicken, or as Gil says, meat candy.

I was too busy to get a picture of my steak last night, but overall, I would say I am eating well!

Norse Sirk

I am done with the Confederate Chaplain's coat I have been making my husband...yippee! Well, I will do some adjustments after the event tomorrow, but I am done for now....so I can start to work again on the Norse dress I put aside for that three weeks or so. I am close to done with the main seams, then I can start the embellishment. :)

Almost Summer, Winter is A-coming.

The day began early with a ride north for a little minor surgery.  The sun was up before we left, but not before we rose.  The sky was a won...
