The wind was not really strong, but almost constant, so drifts formed and moved as the winds shifted from the normal NW to the nor’easter that swept in on Monday night. We didn’t get the worst of it by a long shot, but it was certainly enough for me! I love snow, though right now it’s tough getting around in it. I’ll take a walk this afternoon and see what’s going on in the back woods. </p></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqiAaFhZCLC1P8yIAxXOYrN3YcaB7tdOHgSJfJXnUUEvgZTA8hPdVKoovnMh95A-6bhcxK31u-o64ngCBcwcXXAHpDrXrMb9ACBQvglgyeI8tJIwjGTvi9LdqPLJPPk07skfahNwudY-c/s2048/46D2588F-2BA0-4AA3-87E4-76089B0C7B7C.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqiAaFhZCLC1P8yIAxXOYrN3YcaB7tdOHgSJfJXnUUEvgZTA8hPdVKoovnMh95A-6bhcxK31u-o64ngCBcwcXXAHpDrXrMb9ACBQvglgyeI8tJIwjGTvi9LdqPLJPPk07skfahNwudY-c/w480-h640/46D2588F-2BA0-4AA3-87E4-76089B0C7B7C.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFnzdkt2pu-q27UUxCnDM3Hlqi7Wc5J3hy9C80t7tYJdlN5iOLSjveTlkkpIgml4BSVRe-ylGjEEvxiMOSoGRpoLnhLqLukfh6Lb18KapZK12mYyS1-HD3DL762SrG1pNgzA9IBUQkE2k/s2048/496AEB77-3339-4BF3-A59F-D9AD17EB7809.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFnzdkt2pu-q27UUxCnDM3Hlqi7Wc5J3hy9C80t7tYJdlN5iOLSjveTlkkpIgml4BSVRe-ylGjEEvxiMOSoGRpoLnhLqLukfh6Lb18KapZK12mYyS1-HD3DL762SrG1pNgzA9IBUQkE2k/w480-h640/496AEB77-3339-4BF3-A59F-D9AD17EB7809.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The snow began and after getting the small compost bin emptied into the large one by the garden, and refilling the bird’s food, I headed indoors to...no surprise....bake! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLPI-62BWsEA2oTw3dUr1y9RA0n3Jr-qjFH_2gR6wNNQnn5w1z1AtOg9NtkxyKfLo0fy3Z58BFj5ArpXLUg2lhi_JQdTRHyZRaZJpWltAChs2xUBAqV3_4r9vgVcR4RKfIykhEWAkrPRg/s2048/82269381-D6B4-4F41-96B2-0F0198FBCA0C.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1920" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLPI-62BWsEA2oTw3dUr1y9RA0n3Jr-qjFH_2gR6wNNQnn5w1z1AtOg9NtkxyKfLo0fy3Z58BFj5ArpXLUg2lhi_JQdTRHyZRaZJpWltAChs2xUBAqV3_4r9vgVcR4RKfIykhEWAkrPRg/w600-h640/82269381-D6B4-4F41-96B2-0F0198FBCA0C.jpeg" width="600" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Sourdough crackers seemed a good idea, and I readied the spices for a toddy or two. After dusk, the clouds rolled back in and the snow not only returned, but brought its friend, sleet, along. Our neighbor borrowed our snowblower and shovel to get their truck out of the way, and out came the front loader,,,three young men, and their parents, made short work of clearing the drive we share. God has given us wonderful neighbors in every place we’ve gone. Before our health declined, we also went out and cleared neighbor’s drives, but now we must learn to receive. Sometimes it’s hard, especially for dh whose always been the protector, the provider, the strength. He is a sheepdog in a world of sheep and wolves. I too have that nature. Letting others do for me is not easy. So, of course, I baked a chocolate pudding cake to give them. They are my only neighbors for a half mile or more on either side, and I treasure them. <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwrEuWFnbDS3cj_ipA8bKiVnDlMdme0kctssp8jYKsf7u80CXQns6SE0WhcWKGn9gfwd6pStKOgFMj8bUNcPrlihA616nVSf3tQFw_odoD2TnXj1434WFIqy18GtKA1Mxkf4E6eU61AEM/s2048/A08B4E3B-1A2F-499B-B30E-82B984CC0B01.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1878" data-original-width="2048" height="586" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwrEuWFnbDS3cj_ipA8bKiVnDlMdme0kctssp8jYKsf7u80CXQns6SE0WhcWKGn9gfwd6pStKOgFMj8bUNcPrlihA616nVSf3tQFw_odoD2TnXj1434WFIqy18GtKA1Mxkf4E6eU61AEM/w640-h586/A08B4E3B-1A2F-499B-B30E-82B984CC0B01.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiotYNTsHPc3fzEp18m1GdfeEhFzpOcd3X-V4DPIlZt2rYOj1otUIXe8TjkKQIEk-7FtQ8mrrwM20ACARfyOTlz4OfI2CAWXPsVo5unozXESySfbk-m1xi1N4iC9lx5obPfTGmh9Lf0S7k/s2048/DC41BE23-C3BD-40CA-A8AB-619AAD6572F2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiotYNTsHPc3fzEp18m1GdfeEhFzpOcd3X-V4DPIlZt2rYOj1otUIXe8TjkKQIEk-7FtQ8mrrwM20ACARfyOTlz4OfI2CAWXPsVo5unozXESySfbk-m1xi1N4iC9lx5obPfTGmh9Lf0S7k/w480-h640/DC41BE23-C3BD-40CA-A8AB-619AAD6572F2.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>The day ended with a lovely fire and a glass of mulled rum. Just enough to give me a sunrise at the top, where I turn around to walk back, and then again at my yard, with a peeking of the sun between.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizNftCh8y1MMeeCgTUe_HGm8Lpu7Z4p_-xGPlj9zjqsbYFfQC0xchTXSnpsPQXqX9drfpnY05fM23obFS5i-U4TnFHIXmryz7E5nywkEaluOBegKbaRNThGHsEy0HRoHSkrMeVjqTJOss/s2048/C9B44396-3C29-464C-B78E-E34DC7D5A99B.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizNftCh8y1MMeeCgTUe_HGm8Lpu7Z4p_-xGPlj9zjqsbYFfQC0xchTXSnpsPQXqX9drfpnY05fM23obFS5i-U4TnFHIXmryz7E5nywkEaluOBegKbaRNThGHsEy0HRoHSkrMeVjqTJOss/w480-h640/C9B44396-3C29-464C-B78E-E34DC7D5A99B.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">South Mountain, a good neighbor, is just turning a deep plum against a lilac sky. Peach trees lie dormant in between, tied up for training and support. Cashtown is already awake, the farmers in their fields although there is little work to do right now. Soon the flurry of preparation for spring planting will begin, wheat, sorghum, rape, soy and corn are all in seed, waiting to be put in the rich earth to ripen. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Then there will be little enough rest for the farmers, winter offers a brief time of regeneration, both for the trees and fields, and for the tenders, the farmers, the growers. They are the heart of this county, this state, this nation. Stop the farming, and all your important, fancy white collar workers, the blue collars of industry, the retail workers, all will stop. And yet, these tough, hardworking, driven providers are often scorned. It angers me. I did not expect to find that here, but the city folk are fleeing there crappy cities, and moving to rural areas, but voting the same way they did in the cities. The future looks grim to me. I think I need a ride up to the top of the the ridge to my west, its higher than my little ridge, and get a little perspective back. Up here, about half the people pronounce it with a long "a", and half with a short. Fitting, since Pennsylvania is a sort of mixing ground of immigrants from Ireland and Scotland. I have lived longest in the south, where it is mostly Scots immigrants, and we pronounce it with a short third "a", the north had mostly the Irish, and they pronounce it with a long "a". We are a mix here. Our music shows influences of both, so too the accents. Well, at least the music and speech of the area's original immigrant's descendants. Now the influx of people from all walks of life have made it even more of a mixing pot, I think America is slowly losing the zonal differences. Luckily not yet, There are still those whose lives are little different than their great grand parents....technical advances, yes, both in work and play. Medically, thank goodness yes, though I still know some who collect locally available plants for medicine and food, and I seek them out to learn from them. Someday they will all be gone. Until then, I will try to help keep their knowledge alive. I actually owe my life to one of them, but that's a story for another time! I think I will go listen to a little bluegrass.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div></div><p></p><div class="blogger-post-footer">Until next time...</div>Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17717382843550131146noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8366043680797618286.post-64535965974979534722021-01-07T20:26:00.000-05:002021-01-07T20:26:11.222-05:00 A Day Late but a Joyous Epiphany <p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPYmFLhlPG4lcsXqicAKptqkwy8P64xgmt7TsLU63H3Nru1-eaXTPiwRigjEYnaJMOEdJERGKB9hJsnUe5DByzK3rj9rp_rAOYpHil8V3122TCd8w1JURp2E8FR7Mzc2maPwQc_kI7siw/s2048/0DE653B3-A3CD-477C-8E98-1254D52738E4.jpeg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPYmFLhlPG4lcsXqicAKptqkwy8P64xgmt7TsLU63H3Nru1-eaXTPiwRigjEYnaJMOEdJERGKB9hJsnUe5DByzK3rj9rp_rAOYpHil8V3122TCd8w1JURp2E8FR7Mzc2maPwQc_kI7siw/w480-h640/0DE653B3-A3CD-477C-8E98-1254D52738E4.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUnbV8grwOg-584k5EPgGnufq5KGp5pcGrHydD83JiTPa-U6PD8TEMeQEY-zpAD6eHDFMHhbC8qLBq8kexEhdldP18AyeLFgyIcZt2XE4MODIufeun_g-defEZo-jLX08VwR6KFL0FCnE/s2048/3ADEF18A-8DE0-4A19-B165-F30A22CEABE5.jpeg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUnbV8grwOg-584k5EPgGnufq5KGp5pcGrHydD83JiTPa-U6PD8TEMeQEY-zpAD6eHDFMHhbC8qLBq8kexEhdldP18AyeLFgyIcZt2XE4MODIufeun_g-defEZo-jLX08VwR6KFL0FCnE/w480-h640/3ADEF18A-8DE0-4A19-B165-F30A22CEABE5.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj54_t7vyrKti6todud_qsKDYlnQMaL_XC1hSzkZuXSTyKMaI1ByHj7JPx-9G0myHQ-5LuURRsoB8MDTZzdKeO8r14kSVJVokktVaLD3r-0hRs6Qc1ArlgFckORmSdi9qATDKDiXn8z_Ac/s2048/57FC9F36-7747-4039-A663-E333D1433AB5.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj54_t7vyrKti6todud_qsKDYlnQMaL_XC1hSzkZuXSTyKMaI1ByHj7JPx-9G0myHQ-5LuURRsoB8MDTZzdKeO8r14kSVJVokktVaLD3r-0hRs6Qc1ArlgFckORmSdi9qATDKDiXn8z_Ac/w640-h480/57FC9F36-7747-4039-A663-E333D1433AB5.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br />Yesterday was Theophany, the revelation of God. The Eastern Church celebrates this on January 19th, the western churches on the 6th. It celebrates the Magi seeing Jesus and recognizing him as the Christos, the first such recognition. The gifts they brought Him, gold, frankincense, and myrrh, legend says are representing His kingship, deity, and death. There it is, the whole story in a nutshell. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;">The next picture is my current view, rather unchanging for the last 30 hours...except for the trip to the ER today to get better meds for my newly reinsured back. It wasn’t awful, nor did it last for hours, but instead came and went as the gusts pleased. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj06E8ywMY-95h7pUy7K_xFY1tBd7KmKp-CtzMogq4hBqJaBsMeBG9YltNd_TGspotCuXNhssKZRx8SwLZCyiR14UWxBzASEvHeeQxexsTQyk_MvY44f0zM77W7ABTD8qR4ouSDhmL_hsM/s2048/EA6507E5-5373-4BDB-98B9-F04414C48C76.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj06E8ywMY-95h7pUy7K_xFY1tBd7KmKp-CtzMogq4hBqJaBsMeBG9YltNd_TGspotCuXNhssKZRx8SwLZCyiR14UWxBzASEvHeeQxexsTQyk_MvY44f0zM77W7ABTD8qR4ouSDhmL_hsM/w480-h640/EA6507E5-5373-4BDB-98B9-F04414C48C76.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>When the wind wasn’t wild, there was an almost eerie silence that reigned in its place, muffling sound, just the gentle ticking I associate with falling snow. The light was different too, more...almost luminous. It’s been years since we’ve seen this much snow, and there’s not anything substantive looming on the near horizon, so I will enjoy this while I can. Honestly, I can’t remember a time when snowstorms weren’t accompanied by the stress of having to get to work, worrying about the kids, or being Alpha personnel in the Navy. This was delightful! No wondering if I would have to travel through the slippery roads, no finding a daycare that was open, no planning and overseeing the berthing arrangements for sailor’s families or stranded civilian workers. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJ_nN9e85QDH00bRDVBgL7IMpXqU28DQ9t_ZozecWOBLaLSCUH9yfKoXAfZ1lAe8kA8BvBczLjEr7Y0flXb56Em-LjrSXjijE8n5WRo8xPWXLrlj6Q9Jzv8Gt1MmwBXMIUtPfpmtPU6nI/s2048/559A03DC-8837-40B0-A58C-804B72BD907F.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJ_nN9e85QDH00bRDVBgL7IMpXqU28DQ9t_ZozecWOBLaLSCUH9yfKoXAfZ1lAe8kA8BvBczLjEr7Y0flXb56Em-LjrSXjijE8n5WRo8xPWXLrlj6Q9Jzv8Gt1MmwBXMIUtPfpmtPU6nI/w480-h640/559A03DC-8837-40B0-A58C-804B72BD907F.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>Instead I stoked the fire and made comfort food and petted my cats while watching the snow fall... total and complete perfection!we made it through without power loss, though we were ready if need be. The birds rather frantically ate, getting in as many calories as possible. I changed out the sliver of suet they left this morning for a fresh, fatty, protein rich block. The kitties have been entertained watching the activities of dozens of feathered fliers jostling for treats. I knitted. Most of the day! Today was bake cookies day for our neighbors who plowed us out with their tractor. Good people, very good. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh9SYkhWIKsXoAhYYrmaruEPFKdd55BxwTUkfX-A8N1NW2JHLg8kS0E8273p_iI1rxvjnPKbLOAEX2wosBXyGdSpwpI4UXhcwRgc9jkpnjZSIft4hVN-jsKG4PkNGhP-lM4wtyoWJ8MiA/s2048/1AF56B96-4844-43F3-82BA-AFEF733E9513.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2048" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh9SYkhWIKsXoAhYYrmaruEPFKdd55BxwTUkfX-A8N1NW2JHLg8kS0E8273p_iI1rxvjnPKbLOAEX2wosBXyGdSpwpI4UXhcwRgc9jkpnjZSIft4hVN-jsKG4PkNGhP-lM4wtyoWJ8MiA/w640-h640/1AF56B96-4844-43F3-82BA-AFEF733E9513.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>I hope everyone stayed safe...though I’m sure many were in dangerous situations. I am grateful for the people who cleared the roads, who ran towards the emergencies, who fought their way in to hospitals and firehouses and Sheriffs offices. Those who fought through the storm, keeping safe the flocks and herds and coops in their care. May God bless you, every one. <p></p><div class="blogger-post-footer">Until next time...</div>Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17717382843550131146noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8366043680797618286.post-50196592459106653052020-12-16T20:09:00.001-05:002020-12-16T20:09:45.871-05:00Snow<p> The snow is falling hard and fast, but the wind keeps it from settling onto the ground in a fluffy blanket. It is light and dry, so the above ground power lines are not in danger from the snow, and so far the wind isn’t enough to worry me either. Nonetheless I got out flashlights and oil lamps, and even candles if we really need them. Thank goodness for the knowledge of safe lamps with olive oil fuel shared in the SCA. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL2_prAAYpYAXwbP6RFlWJQE6WcAwA6nNpoGoy8HDa4MZuVfySxjqZt0lryqNVuOeXIt19oEifr2vfOEQXKpPy9W675xAcCr6aUJP-BOXdslfLkYIuCi2bzr1_b2Vw43eR7hUUHtexxO4/s2048/ACC65EEF-817E-4DB4-82CD-520426CCAAF9.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL2_prAAYpYAXwbP6RFlWJQE6WcAwA6nNpoGoy8HDa4MZuVfySxjqZt0lryqNVuOeXIt19oEifr2vfOEQXKpPy9W675xAcCr6aUJP-BOXdslfLkYIuCi2bzr1_b2Vw43eR7hUUHtexxO4/w480-h640/ACC65EEF-817E-4DB4-82CD-520426CCAAF9.jpeg" width="480" /></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /></div>The kitties are taking turned on my lap and the heating pads, they both give and receive comfort. <p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /></div><div class="blogger-post-footer">Until next time...</div>Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17717382843550131146noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8366043680797618286.post-32367724162851438862020-12-13T22:16:00.000-05:002020-12-13T22:16:06.887-05:00The Weather<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjfyagS3k_c_rHl2aH9aWbhmgU4u-fX97mnb2cr6i2zviMJNM3s0qKkMHdzFW0coaVoGxOZzLPQB5J-7PH0iP7g3ZNQ-H8Mz3vzXrb3Fd32wmiFNI2umqVnSbN2sswefS1vPkGVFbKzTo/s2048/1CAE0CC1-7D74-4039-9974-08A425F513FC.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjfyagS3k_c_rHl2aH9aWbhmgU4u-fX97mnb2cr6i2zviMJNM3s0qKkMHdzFW0coaVoGxOZzLPQB5J-7PH0iP7g3ZNQ-H8Mz3vzXrb3Fd32wmiFNI2umqVnSbN2sswefS1vPkGVFbKzTo/w480-h640/1CAE0CC1-7D74-4039-9974-08A425F513FC.jpeg" width="480" /></a>The ever changing vista outside my door beckons me each morning to get my lazy self out from the covers and see what God has on offer for me this morning. Each time is rises and each time it sets it slides a little further south for the rising sun, and north for the setting. I wonder how people, long long ago saw the suns progression. We know they tracked it...not just in the Iron Age, or Bronze, but back into Neolithic time as well. In Pennsylvania we have one of the oldest sites of human habitation in North America as well as some fascinating petroglyphs and stone stacks, all of which have representations of solar and lunar activity. I think it must have been comforting to have a stable schedule, a calendar if you will. It must have been frightening if it deviated. So much depended on the sun. And the moon....but that is for another post.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtMk3DDie2X_zbOfS2VXooRkt3FZ6wV5uLY-hQsODZKW4fAvwLZQS1WTkA-9jCN7u0vv5Z6CUXzY4L6cuFbNhaCuOk8w2GoIqRfjALbS0onAxzJprHe-BCcOGxtYfZFd9JUSnvxDOpWDw/s2048/3EB56F87-6C60-45B6-8140-B9E1D40A6205.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtMk3DDie2X_zbOfS2VXooRkt3FZ6wV5uLY-hQsODZKW4fAvwLZQS1WTkA-9jCN7u0vv5Z6CUXzY4L6cuFbNhaCuOk8w2GoIqRfjALbS0onAxzJprHe-BCcOGxtYfZFd9JUSnvxDOpWDw/w480-h640/3EB56F87-6C60-45B6-8140-B9E1D40A6205.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><p></p><div class="blogger-post-footer">Until next time...</div>Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17717382843550131146noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8366043680797618286.post-30484754162602845762020-11-27T19:55:00.000-05:002020-11-27T19:55:02.952-05:00Walking Through The Woods on Thanksgiving<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMmE5bEV5-Idelu6ewnlDDi2WhKi8iBrCFs9UYgmt9RbbOCXrFJZNLtUiMEcvRZVlNCkN56XAkg2PViCVQOo7CdHEUzH_Ux4FZzojGBeLPYVrk_K-cRdOTpV2rZBNzgaQGceqyJU76prE/s2048/877F551C-7C78-4E4F-9DCA-DED34484364F.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMmE5bEV5-Idelu6ewnlDDi2WhKi8iBrCFs9UYgmt9RbbOCXrFJZNLtUiMEcvRZVlNCkN56XAkg2PViCVQOo7CdHEUzH_Ux4FZzojGBeLPYVrk_K-cRdOTpV2rZBNzgaQGceqyJU76prE/w480-h640/877F551C-7C78-4E4F-9DCA-DED34484364F.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe2J8o_m0ySp9SAE_-odx7Lmy36IOmIokWmFTFGe7SO-OYkWtarpspOZos8rgKkZCef64BXsDkYqWxwNS381F4C-nssJndv2Hz8bAt8uxR6Uy2nXJdw2RdSoIdY3oiVymyoT59niYNpnI/s2048/9161D994-C567-4ABA-A6AC-E378F6C89FE7.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe2J8o_m0ySp9SAE_-odx7Lmy36IOmIokWmFTFGe7SO-OYkWtarpspOZos8rgKkZCef64BXsDkYqWxwNS381F4C-nssJndv2Hz8bAt8uxR6Uy2nXJdw2RdSoIdY3oiVymyoT59niYNpnI/w480-h640/9161D994-C567-4ABA-A6AC-E378F6C89FE7.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXtrP9CiHct4pHK5ntR-o2tfsV7d4T0khOQ20KM_GZbtGT9yz15nvl913a7qxyJ1GFrKY7OcnOV5qiD8Egpyrhkbj3jza26OGhLSzbuEtTkoP13Ir8FCaqp_zDSzwyE_GmWzZ5ribX2p8/s2048/76872A42-E819-4051-BE8A-3DBD8022601F.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXtrP9CiHct4pHK5ntR-o2tfsV7d4T0khOQ20KM_GZbtGT9yz15nvl913a7qxyJ1GFrKY7OcnOV5qiD8Egpyrhkbj3jza26OGhLSzbuEtTkoP13Ir8FCaqp_zDSzwyE_GmWzZ5ribX2p8/w480-h640/76872A42-E819-4051-BE8A-3DBD8022601F.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwz-Djy8XtsUalXPbmbgA-e6n3wad5A89XTriPMQQqqq-JJwmvBUmntG2bBK13BeL7TeK7Eok7AnQcHNw4_xly0ev9B0aQUikzccPBndjpALjHByrGufFqco9RwU2XYs0fZohb2pMGLPw/s2048/E6299BD7-9087-4A9C-96D4-6FAB68AD7032.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwz-Djy8XtsUalXPbmbgA-e6n3wad5A89XTriPMQQqqq-JJwmvBUmntG2bBK13BeL7TeK7Eok7AnQcHNw4_xly0ev9B0aQUikzccPBndjpALjHByrGufFqco9RwU2XYs0fZohb2pMGLPw/w480-h640/E6299BD7-9087-4A9C-96D4-6FAB68AD7032.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div><br /> Today I walked a different path than most days, I took a somewhat dubious trail through the woods along and behind my house. There were lots of deciduous trees and a few pines and firs, and surprisingly, a small fort built with four pallets! Very industrious, someone was. I’m not certain if they’re on my property, we have to get a surveyor out anyway, but I can’t tell if it’s in use or not. Kids I don’t mind, but I don’t want someone lighting a fire there, for instance. I’ll see if my neighbor or his kids might know the story. <p></p><p><br /></p><p>I also found tree bits with moss and lichens on them, the kind of lichens you can use for natural dyeing, pine cones and a birds nest on the ground, plus several in the trees. Maybe a squirrel nest too! But most exciting we’re three turkey hens just walking along, ambling around, and gobbling. text-align: center;">It never ceases to amaze me how Blogger switches up the order I do things in....oh well, I’m sure you can tell what’s what. We are expecting a rain front to move in, and temperatures to fall. The last couple days have been mild, and the temps will rise again to mild, but while it’s cooler I want to walk our path into the woods behind us and see what is there. When we came here it was cold and I badly needed a total knee replacement. I got that in summer, and then I needed my back fixed. Half of that is done, the final little surgery is next month. Now I can walk again, but after that last bit gets fixed, I will be able to navigate the rough paths without so much trouble. I hope I find enough pine and fir to have my own branches inside to bring in that wonderful piney smell. THEN I will know I’m officially at home! It’s been a crazy year, can I get an “amen”?</div><br /> <p></p><div class="blogger-post-footer">Until next time...</div>Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17717382843550131146noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8366043680797618286.post-398568118437102302020-11-20T21:26:00.000-05:002020-11-20T21:26:25.263-05:00God Paints the Best Pictures!<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Last night it was a bit of a different story. We had 30mph sustained winds and gusts over 50! A big tree limb broke and came flying across the yard onto our deck. Into our breakfast room, where we were sitting! A gift from a childhood friend of HD’s that he found lives just down the road! They hadn’t seen each other for more than 60 years! After the initial burn, as above, I can keep it going with just one or two pieces of wood. Still puts out lots of heat. This winter it will be nice to have a wood stove, it’s been way to long. Decades. Funny how the place I’ve lived the longest is the place I liked the least. Ah well, now I am home at long last. <img id="id_d66d_c8f_4169_1202" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/07hi3li_SKwUVWnVyYG04sx-yNuQxX2rpeLNOtk1ODMUhT2FVL2LR4MNdZ9pB0E" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 392px; height: auto;"><br><br><div class="blogger-post-footer">Until next time...</div>Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17717382843550131146noreply@blogger.com0
