That Christmas Spirit

I have been busily sewing and quilting, embroidering and knitting, trying to get gifts finished and ready for mailing and wrapping.  Planning the Christmas eve dinner, putting finishing touches on things, I love this time, I truly do.  A couple of minor surgeries on my leg (2 more to go) have taken some wind out of my sails, but the breeze has picked up, and I am back on track!

Lovely Deb at Seeking Lavender Lane has a drawing regularly to share her Favorite Things with her readers.  I was lucky enough to win December's box, and it was indeed filled with goodies.  They will make my decor better and prettier and softer..... thank you Deb!
The quilts are my latest, but some aren't yet done....they will get there, there's plenty of time!

I can't put one up yet, the recipient visits occasionally.  I will post more as I can.  I would rather create right now than post!  I am sure you can relate....

More Mid Atlantic Quilts

I am amazed at the level of expertise in the actual quilting.  The color play and composition are fabulous, but this post is more about the quilting.....

Borealis

This is a teaser for one of the projects I am currently working on, and its FUN!
Next year is the 50th anniversary of the Beatles coming to America! A small group of women thought it would be fun to do a quilt challenge based on that, so they agreed to choose one of the 320 songs the Beatles recorded as a group, and use the title as inspiration for their quilts. Well, that small group of five has grown to well over sixty! The quilts will be displayed at the Quilt show in Hampton Roads next year, and there is chatter of a book. I have the first bits done on mine, and much work to do yet.
I chose a little known song whose name instantly put a picture in my mind... It is called Only A Northern Song and while the song itself is of little consequence, the mental image is lovely. I can't wait to work on it when I get a chance, though I am also trying to get a norse hat done by tonight. I figure I may need it! Of course, if it is done, the snow won't materialize, but I can always hope.
I must say, I have become a real fan of the Superior line of metallic threads... I used two others, and had real shredding issues every few inches, to the point I called our Bernina Head and threatened suicide, but when I changed to Superior, the problems melted away. I wouldn't have thought it would be so dramatic. There are organza, dupioni,Angelina Fibers, Shiva oilsticks and foiling involved too. Not your granny's quilt!

Back Among the Living

Well, I appear to have survived, though for a while there I wasn't altogether certain I wanted to! I am still taking it very easy, I made it through two days at work last week, and did a little shopping Friday, but whether it was the heat or the walking or whatever, I found myself very dizzy and faint feeling, and rushed back home and ate a bite and napped. I took it easy the rest of the day. Saturday I made it to the Quilt Show for a couple hours, and left BEFORE I got too tired. The air was cool, so I do think that was an issue Friday. I bought a pattern and cd from a company http://www.critterpat.com/ that sells animal patterns of wonderful quality. I have a couple others of theirs. This is a sheep pattern I plan on doing all in wools on a wool background for a winter's night! I am not sure if I will do it as a crazy pattern or on a woven background, I am still thinking. But I like it. I must say, though, I had hoped to feel better by now. I still feel pretty rocky this morning. Still don't have much of an appetite either. And my ear is really annoying, not clearing up at all. It is crackling, but still very clogged. Maybe I will give it till Thursday.

Almost Summer, Winter is A-coming.

The day began early with a ride north for a little minor surgery.  The sun was up before we left, but not before we rose.  The sky was a won...
