Winter Skies at Dawn

The sun's rising is not dramatic this time of year.  Often only gentle colors light the predawn sky, and the sun is lost in fog or clouds...Today the predawn sky showed only a small band of salmon and gold, but as the disk itself rose above the horizon, the drama was immediately visible in the bands of light on the trees behind me.  The dusty old grey trees became a burnished brown, and the branches seemed to lift towards the sun, as if praise-filled, or perhaps as an old Ent, lifting his face to seek warmth.

In front of me, unwatched for a few critical moments, the sun rose in a wash of color, for only a few moments, and then drifted up into the clouds to hide its face.

Catching up

I missed the Sunday of Light.... but certainly have been thinking about it.  God is very good, and has all our needs in sight.  We sometimes don't have the same priorities, but then He sees the front of the tapestry, we see only the back.  This is Edith Zimmer's work.

My kitties are enjoying the weather....inside.  They are definitely comfort kitties, liking their cushions and covers.  But then, they are cats, so.....

Today I have been aching to make art, but can't seem to get past the background. Maybe just making backgrounds will be enough. I have a thousand ideas, until I get to the table. I have been listening not to music recently, but to a favorite story on CD, the Dark is Rising sequence, by Susan Cooper. It is a classic Good v Evil story, but the fact that many have told it before detracts not a whit from its eloquence. I think the dark/light may be my next art theme, I am not sure. I have also been reading up on volcanism, a perennial interest of mine. Nature is amazingly beautiful, and amazingly brutal. Without volcanoes we could not be supported by our planet, but still they wreak havok. Man too. We do great good and great evil. Sigh. Too late to contemplate the rest, a nice cuppa tea will send me off to sleep from where, eventually, my next art will emerge.

Almost Summer, Winter is A-coming.

The day began early with a ride north for a little minor surgery.  The sun was up before we left, but not before we rose.  The sky was a won...
