Snow! There is Snow!

It is pretty.... though it was alot prettier at 0700 before I started to shovel it.  And before the sleet started to beat it down from light and fluffy to soggy heavy mushy snow.  But, still and all, I do like snow.  Really I do. 

It does mean Quilt Club is cancelled though, and I don't like that.  I did finally finish Sunbonnet Sue and her adventures, so, am disappointed not to be sharing that with my fellow quilter peeps.  The only photo I have isn't very good, so I will wait til I get a better one to share it. 

Stay safe and warm out there everyone!  Hot tea and cookies, that's the ticket!

One Block Wonder That Couldn't Be Done

 

A teacher I know said the fabric I wanted to use wouldn't be able to be used for this pattern. While I will admit it was difficult, sometimes to the point of banging my head on the table, I really like the way it turned out.

 

The only rules I accept in quilting are safety rules. I don't want to lose a finger, but I don't like it when someone says "you can't do that". That is simply a challenge.

Cool Stuff

This is the Sunbonnet Sue Through the Ages I have been doing all year. My manager really wanted to do a Sue quilt as the year's project, but there really wasn't much interest. I have to admit, I wasn't too thrilled myself, but I committed to doing it. The first row is Norse, the second is Celt, the third is High Gothic, and the fourth is the Six Wives of Henry VIII. I couldn't figure a way to have Anne and Catherine to carry their heads....they just looked like big pillows. But it is done, and I had fun despite myself.... I can't wait to see what others have done.

This is the result of a challenge my general manager set us...how to use a relatively small amount of fabric and make something cool to sell this Ralph Lauren plaid. I thought a bog coat would be perfect, and I think it turned out pretty well. A yard and three quarters, and some terrific closures... And a warm coat later!

After Christmas Showing

 

This is the quilt I made my son this Christmas. I started with the scenic panels you see, designed the quilt around them (actually one panel cut apart)pieced it, then had an exciting time quilting it myself on a long arm Handiquilter. I actually got it trimmed and bound before Christmas Eve!

Meg enjoyed wearing my fur to the Marine Ball so much, I made her this faux chinchilla shrug, and she likes it even better!

Having my kids home for Christmas was my very favorite present!

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel - Enya

First Storm of the Season

It began with a lovely little snow sprinkle, just enough to wet the roads and make the grass look like flour had been spilled on it.

Then it began to sleet, then rain. It was raw and cold, just nasty.

But in the morning, the rain had frozen into a lovely coating of ice, and if there had been any sunshine, it would have been a wonderland.

This is from a friend's house, with a tiny breakthrough of Sol.

I have a feeling this year could be cold and nasty. I hope not.

New projects

They are mounting up! Sewing for Christmas, Twelfth Night, work both places, it is fun, but time consuming. I have a couple of faux fur projects going, one of which I will show after it is done.... Looks like nothin' now. The other is this one, a fur lined hood for both SCA and mundane use. If this winter is as bad as they are saying, I will need it.
