The Best Buy

I took Hungry Bunny and Baby Bunny shopping today, and found a pretty darn new mobility scooter at a thrift shop for a great price.... now my sis can go to museums and shopping way more easily.... well, as soon as we get the lithium battery that goes in it anyway.  It is pretty expensive, but even so, still a great deal.  Her current scooter just is too heavy to haul into the car and out and so she is really limited where she can go.  I can't wait to go to the Smithsonian with her!

Mate Go East. Way East.

This could be bad.  My favorite weather forecaster, WXRISK, is thinking it could hit on the NC/SC border, and that bodes ill.  If it doesn't turn out strongly east, Long Island could take a big hit too.  I am waiting for his update.....

Today in Middle Earth

Today Strider and the hobbits found themselves in the Midgewater Marshes, struggling through muck and fighting bloodsucking insects.  It appeared endless, no resolution in sight.

Politics in America seems like that, no good choices, no resolution, just muck and bloodsucking parasites.

At least the marsh had a beginning and an end.

Inspiring Me for Years

In fact for decades.  Kaffe Fassett is in town.  The quilt store I work in is hosting him and his studio manager for a workshop and lecture this weekend.  If you don't know him, think of him as the Tom Cruise of quilting.  Or maybe the Shakespeare of quilting.  Whatever, he is quite the leader in the world of fabric and pattern design.  Over 15 years ago I made my first quilt using his shot cottons and stripes, and flawed though it was, I slept under it with love until this year.  The teal/purple/green one is my latest bed quilt, and I love it even more.  Kaffe is color, Kaffe is texture, Kaffe is pattern.  The bottom piece is not yet complete, and just a runner, but coming along.

My Saturday was somewhat stressful, last minute preparations for the event, but Kaffe is as engaging, as entertaining, and as inspiring as he was those many years ago, and the hundreds of happy listeners tonight sure seemed to think so too.  Tomorrow's workshop should be amazing, as he helps participants learn his method of color and pattern design.

He is traveling across the country for the next few                          months, and if you get the opportunity to hear him, by all means do so.  Even if your art is not quilting (or needlepoint or knitting, which he also designs) he has magic at his command.  Watch the wizard work!

Interlude

It has been a long two years with many things happening, some good, some not so much.  For one thing, I have changed jobs completely, and that is very good.  I am able to do more sewing and quilting, and that is also good.  My spinning and weaving though have been moistly neglected, and I hope to remedy that.  I do this blog for me, so if I sound like I am talking to myself, I am.  If you care to join me, welcome, but I give no trigger warnings, pull no punches, and don't mince words.  That being said, politics will make few inroads here, I am trying to ignore the outer world when I can and concentrate on my art journey.  Only when I simply must get something off my chest and out of my head will I dredge up the seemingly hopeless world of hypocrisy and nonsense.  Cheers, and I am off again!

Borealis

I can post it, I can post it! This is my quilt for the Beatles Challenge. A group of 150 quilts were submitted, and will be displayed at several venues over the next year, beginning with the Houston International Quilt Show. This resulted in a book which will come out in September, entitled "Inspired by the Beatles" by Donna DeSoto. I am so excited!

My quilt illustrates the title "Only a Northern Song" , a little known song from the Yellow Submarine album. As soon as I saw the title, I knew the northern lights would somehow have to be there, and that led me naturally enough to a Norwegian fjord with a burning longship. Well, sort of naturally, anyway! I can hardly wait for the book to come out....it has a much better picture!

Almost Summer, Winter is A-coming.

The day began early with a ride north for a little minor surgery.  The sun was up before we left, but not before we rose.  The sky was a won...
