In fact for decades. Kaffe Fassett is in town. The quilt store I work in is hosting him and his studio manager for a workshop and lecture this weekend. If you don't know him, think of him as the Tom Cruise of quilting. Or maybe the Shakespeare of quilting. Whatever, he is quite the leader in the world of fabric and pattern design. Over 15 years ago I made my first quilt using his shot cottons and stripes, and flawed though it was, I slept under it with love until this year. The teal/purple/green one is my latest bed quilt, and I love it even more. Kaffe is color, Kaffe is texture, Kaffe is pattern. The bottom piece is not yet complete, and just a runner, but coming along.
My Saturday was somewhat stressful, last minute preparations for the event, but Kaffe is as engaging, as entertaining, and as inspiring as he was those many years ago, and the hundreds of happy listeners tonight sure seemed to think so too. Tomorrow's workshop should be amazing, as he helps participants learn his method of color and pattern design.
He is traveling across the country for the next few months, and if you get the opportunity to hear him, by all means do so. Even if your art is not quilting (or needlepoint or knitting, which he also designs) he has magic at his command. Watch the wizard work!

Oooh, those quilts are gorgeous. I'm hoping to do some quilting over the winter, but there are sooo many things on my 'to do' list! x
Don't we all! I have too many things I want to do, not enough time to do them all. Ah well, such is life.
